Minis line up at the start.

Formula Ford single-seaters press on up the hill away from the station.

There are many ways to enjoy a visit to Pau; as a competitor, as a visitor with your own classic car, or simply as a spectator. For 2014, HVM Racing took over the organisation of the races from Peter Auto, promising a new and less elitist mix of historic cars. Some of the most spectacular races are for prewar cars, but you can also enjoy Formula Ford and Formula 3 grids, as well as 1960s GT and endurance racers like the Ford Mustang. The 2.8km (1.7 miles) circuit is a challenging track for the competitors, with the tight Virage de la Gare and Épingle du Lycée catching out the unwary. For spectators, there are good views from the different stands, but be ready to walk a fair way around the paddocks and circuit. On Sunday, the Parc Beaumont hosts a display of up to 800 classic cars, and club members can drive around the circuit at lunchtime each day.
